According to a commission statement, “The European Commission on Thursday pledged an additional 40.5 million euros (US $58.7 million) to the Burmese people inside the country and along its borders.”

As per the statement, nearly 22 million euros will go to the people affected by the Cyclone Nargis in the Irrawaddy delta and about 18.5 million euros will go to help the highly vulnerable people in the remote regions along the Sino-Burmese border and in the Burmese refugee camps on the Thailand-Burma border, via the operational partners such as nongovernmental organizations, UN agencies and the Red Cross.

The cyclone which hit on 2-3 May, took the lives of more than 14,000 people and many were missing following the cyclone.

The all-India indefinite strike launched by the Gramin Dak Seva (GDS) workers of the Postal Department began on Wednesday. The GDS employees in the various parts of the country sat on the dharna and raised slogans against the union government.

Besides GDS workers, nearly 3 lakh employees of National Federation of Postal Employee’s Union (NFPE) had also joined the nation-wide strike. The main demand of the agitated GDS workers is that they should be given all benefits of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.

Washington, Dec 20: Facebook has shut down a fast growing jihadist group, after it received an alert that the group was using the site to spread its radical message.

The group called the Fursan Ghazawat Alnusra, which is Arabic for "Knights in Support of the Invasion", was blocked on December 18 evening after its membership grew to about 120 in just more than one week.

The group's motto or teaching to its members was to wage "Jihad to aid the religion of Allah and his Prophet."

The discovery was made by FoxNews. com, which after working closely with a former radical Muslim, who is presently dedicated to exposing cyberterror activity, gained access to the group and its content.

The Union Health minister, Anbumani Ramadoss refused to accept that some Ayurvedic drugs manufactured by leading Indian companies contained heavy metals above the permissible limit as reported in a US medical journal.
