The recent entry to cinema halls was Chandrakant Kulkarni’s Meerabai Not Out. The movie is about a simple girl Meerabai (Mandira Bedi), who has an immense deep crush for cricketer Anil Kumble.
The movie, which could have been better, simply revolves around Meerabai and the camera follows her like Mary’s little lamb in the entire film.
Ace poet, lyricist and film producer Gulzar has received the coveted Akshaya Samman for 2008 by Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare on the occasion of the 10th annual Akshaya Utsav at Utkal Mandap open-air auditorium on Saturday.
After receiving the award, Gulzar said, “I can only try to do what the much loved Khoka Bhai had done in the field of music, writing and philosophy.”
“But I do not think I can go beyond half of what he had achieved.”
The first Akshaya Samman was awarded to legendary playback singer Manna De.
Ace Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan on Saturday become the first foreign actor to be conferred a Malaysian title, ‘Datuk,’ which is often equated with the British knighthood
Resplendent in a black baju Melayu, samping and songkok, King Khan received the title of ‘Datuk’ from Mohamad Khalil Yaacob, the Governor of Malaysia’s southern Malacca State, during a special ceremony in Malaysia.
Baju Melayu is just like ‘kurta-pajama’, while ‘samping’ is a piece of cloth men folded around the wearer’s waist, falling to the length of the long shirt.
One would have expected superb performances in thriller "Maharathi", since it consisted of experienced actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri and Boman Irani. However, in honest terms, the film is a complete disaster and has failed miserably to impress the audience, the credit of which goes to a loose storyline that has no element to keep the interest of the audience alive. For any film, Plot is the central part and the plot of Maharathi is a total thumbs down.
The latest entry to the cinema halls, Dil Kabaddi, directed by Anil Senior, did not fetch as well as expected. It is inspired by, or rather copied from Woody Allen’s classic, Husbands and Wives, which had won the hearts of millions by its humorous theme.
