Foreign companies opt to stay away from the Indian 3G auction

3GAuctionWhile the 3G auction brings a lot of adrenalin rush for the home-grown telecom major, the foreign companies have decided to give it a miss and that too by a long whisker. There is no denying with India being the World's fastest growing and in fact, second largest market for such services, the decision comes at a shocker.

Mainly, the companies which are not present in India till now have not shown much interest in the much-awaited 3G auction. Be it the market leader Bharti Airtel or the company with highest ARPUs, Vodafone or the other counterparts like Idea Teleservices, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices, a total of nine local players have submitted their respective bids for the auction, according to a notice shown at the website of DoT after the competition of the procedure of submitting the bids.

The 3G capabilities which are expected to fetch the telecom giants big rewards against the advanced multimedia services have been already postponed thrice. Then be it the reasons of finding the exact no. of slots to be sold or the starting price of the bandwidth, analysts believe the absence of foreign players isn't a surprise as the business case is entirely very different for them.
