EMT suspended from job for trying to save 7-year-old girl’s life!
An EMT who did what is expected to be done when asked for help to save someone’s life is paying a huge price for it: he has lost his job. EMT Qwasie Reid, who works for a private ambulance company, has been suspended from the job because of making a stop without being called.
What happened was Reid who worked for Assist Ambulance was transporting a nursing home patient last Wednesday when they were stopped by a man at a red light. The man told them that a girl student, 7, is choking and they need help.
Reid was with his partner, who told the man that they already are carrying a patient and could do nothing in this situation. But Reid, who has been driving ambulance for past four years, was aware that he needs to give priority to the choking girl, who is currently on ventilator.
Therefore, against his partner’s wish, he jumped out of the ambulance’s back door and provided first aid to the girl, who by that time has turned blue. Reid said that no one in the school provided first aid to the girl who choked while having her meal.
Reid has been suspended, but is not regretting for what he has done. He said that he will do it again if a child is choking and would do best to save his life. Noelia Echavarria, 7, is admitted at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York and is on life-support. The girl has been declared brain dead.
