Los Angeles - Kenny Chesney took the entertainer of the year prize for the fourth time in five years at the Country Music Awards in Nashville, while former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was named female vocalist of the year. Brad Paisley also repeated in the male and vocalist of the year category.

Chesney's win late Wedneasday helped him consolidate his status as the undisputed king of country music.

In addition to his CMA triumphs, he has also been entertainer of the year four years in a row at the rival Academy of Country Music Awards. His new Island-flavoured album is called "Lucky Old Sun." Underwood also is dominating: it was her third consecutive win of the top female vocalist award.

The country-rock trio Lady Antebellum took the best new artist trophy, and Sugarland was recognized as the vocal duo of the year. (dpa)
