Zac Efron Gets ‘Footloose’

Zac Efron Gets ‘Footloose’Opting for Zac Efron, Paramount has inked a deal with the star of High School Musical 3, to reprise Kevin Bacon’s iconic role in its remake of the classic dance romance ‘Footloose’.  Tough, Efron was rumoured to star in the movie, the whopping $42-million dollars his ‘High School Musical 3’ raked in last weekend, pushed Paramount to fast-track production, with filming starting next spring.  According to the deal, Efron gets a very adult deal, several million dollars and script approval for the film, which targets an older teen audience and adults.

For the remake, we have on board Kenny Ortega, HMS director and Peter Sollett of ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ fame, who will be rewriting the script.  Variety magazine has it that there will be a slew of new songs jazzing up the soundtrack, though many original tunes from ‘Footloose’ like ‘Almost Paradise’ and ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ will remain in the remake.

It is to be hoped that ‘Footloose,’ one of the biggest-selling soundtracks of its era and which made Kevin Bacon a teen heartthrob, has a cameo for Kevin in the remake!
