Women workforce in IT-BPO industry growing: NasscomNumber of women workforce is rapidly increasing in Indian IT and business process outsourcing industry. It accounts for 28 per cent of the total two million workforce in 2007-08 as per data of National Association of Software and Service Companies. It stood at 24 percent in 2005-06.

Many companies have also provided the leadership roles to women in their senior management.

Total of 47 percent women were selected for entry level positions in the industry in 2007-08 as compared to 24 per cent in 2005-06. NASSCOM President, Som Mittal said that industry is putting its due share in women empowerment. He was speaking in the sidelines of IT Women Leadership summit 2008, held by industry body. He said that industry would provide conducive environment for women workforce to shape their leadership qualities.

NASSCOM also awarded Infosys Technologies with Gender Inclusively Awards. The award is given to those organizations which work to promote gender empowerment and women leadership development in the IT-BPO industry. The award went to IBM Daksh for promoting gender empowerment in BPO business category. Ajuba Solutions India Pvt. Limited and ADP Private Limited jointly bagged the best emerging companies award.
