Wipro buys Nokia Mobile TV Broadcast Solution

Wipro buys Nokia Mobile TV Broadcast SolutionThe leading manufacturer of mobile phones – Nokia has declared that it has sold its enterprise mobile TV unit to India based Wipro Technologies. Wipro has also confirmed that it has purchased Nokia Mobile TV Broadcast Solution, offering enterprise Mobile TV solutions.

According to Wipro, Nokia Mobile TV Broadcast unit had around 40 employees, who had been developing software and hardware to help mobile TV technology on the mobile phones to locate and access data from a broadcasting network.

Nokia spokesperson has said, "We wanted to focus on the consumer side of things, the mobile TV client in the devices, rather than on the business-to-business side."

The acquisition deal is almost certain, though the two companies have not disclosed the value and the terms of the deal yet. But, according to analysts, the acquisition of Nokia Mobile Broadcast Solution by Wipro doesn’t appear to be interesting as more and more Indian operators are today looking to 3G services. Wipro is the Bangalore, Karnataka based that deals in information technology, consumer care, lighting, engineering and healthcare.

Fundamentally a DVB-H server platform, Nokia Mobile Broadcast Solution has been offering commercial mobile TV services that can use the current TV content with minimal impact to the existing production systems. Nokia has also been providing training, implementation, integration, maintenance, and support for commercial mobile TV services to consumers. With the service, the Finnish company was targeting broadcasters, telecom operators and Mobile TV operators.
