Weeklong festivities for children from November 14

Renuka Chowdhry, Minister of Women and Child DevelopmentNew Delhi, Nov. 12 : Renuka Chowdhry, Minister of Women and Child Development, will inaugurate a week-long festival for children at Pragati Maidan, here on November 14.

The celebrations will begin with the presentation of National Children Awards to 36 children for exceptional achievements.

These will be followed with cultural programmes and film shows for children at Shakuntalam Theatre, Pragati Maidan.

The National Child Awards for exceptional achievements to 36 children will be presented for 2006, which include one gold medal at the national level and 35 silver medals at the State level.

On the occasion, Chowdhry will also inaugurate the pavilion of the Ministry of Women and Child Development in Hall No. 16, which will have about 90 stalls of Swayamsidha Women Self Help Groups from all States and Union Territories.

Products of these self-help groups will include various household articles, decorative items, traditional and modern handicrafts and handloom articles.

The pavilion will also provide stage performances by state cultural troops, which will include traditional dance, music, magic and puppet shows. (ANI)
