WCO commends Dr G.N. Rao

WCO commends Dr G.N. RaoThe International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) honored the founder-Chairman of L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Dr Gullapalli N Rao with the 'Bernardo Streiff Gold Medal' for his contribution in the field of history, ethics and education, which led to the development of ophthalmology.

It was at the opening ceremony of World Ophthalmology Congress in Berlin, Germany, the institute were the recognition with the Bernardo Streiff Gold Medal was given. This honor is chosen through an overall voting that is held every four years by the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis at the World Ophthalmology Congress where an ophthalmologist who has done great works in the field of ophthalmology in cohesion with history, ethics and education is recognized for its nobility.

Ophthalmologica Internationalis is a sixty member body that consists of the best of all academicians in the world in the field of ophthalmology and Dr Rao, is the only second member after his teacher late Prof L P Agarwal, former Director of All India Institute Medical Sciences.
