Water flowing in Snowy River again

Water flowing in Snowy River againToday, Tim Holding Water Minister and Victorian Premier John Brumby went to Jindabyne, which is situated in Southeastern New South Wales to see water flowing in Snowy river again. After 40 years of the parched system the snowy river has so much water.

After an agreement between the federal government, NSW government and Victorian government to repay the water debt of the Snowy river two year early, extra 17 billion liters of water flow is released through the Jindabyne Dam. With this water flow, Labor has fulfilled its promise, which was made in 1999, that it will return the water flow back to the Snowy river. The promise has been completed before the election in Victoria.

The federal Govt. is supposed to compensate by giving $13.7 million to Snowy Hydro for releasing the water as environmental flows under the three way treaty. On Tuesday, the water starting flowing from Jindabyne Dam and it will flow for nine more days.

In April, next year, another 16 billion, water will be released from the Dam. Mr. John Brumby said that govt. is committed to return the snowy rivers flow to 21 percent till 2012.
