Volkswagen may use the new WagonR platform

VolkswagenFollowing the 20% stake that Volkswagen group picked up in Suzuki Motor Corporation last year, it has been reported that the European automaker may just start making use of the deal in the Indian market.

The recent media reports claim that Volkswagen may use the Ritz and the new WagonR platform of Maruti Suzuki with a view to produce cars under the Volkswagen or the Skoda brands in the domestic market. In fact, sources believe that the company may also be looking at sourcing DDIS (diesel) and K-series engine (petrol) for the products from thee domestic market leader.

However, both the parties haven't confirmed the development but according to the latest media reports, it is believed that Maruti Suzuki will produce these cars for the European automaker and will later badge it under the Skoda or the Volkswagen that will be sold either in the domestic or the overseas markets.

In fact, experts believe if it happens, it will a replica of what Maruti has been doing for Nissan with it's A-Star that sells in the European market under the Pixo brand with a Nissan badge.
