Versatile Kamal Haasan On A New Venture

Kamal Haasan After the huge success of holding a global screenwriting workshop recently, celebrated actor-director Kamal Haasan is all set to produce, direct and act in some short films - based on the Tamil Nadu capital, Chennai.

Giving this information to the media persons, Kamal said: “It would be about 30 short films about this city called Chennai. We will begin with Chennai, we will go to other cities as well. We are not making documentaries. It's about the fictional world of writers as they look at Chennai.”

The versatile actor of Indian cinema would be accompanied by none other than Oscar winning French scriptwriter, Jean Claude Carriere for this purpose.  

Commenting on this occasion, Carriere said: “For me India is South. It is the land where strongest tradition of arts exists.”

Kamal has decided to handpicked nearly 30 scriptwriters for the film from participants of the just concluded Chennai International Screenwriting Workshop.

Apart from Kamal, experienced director and film producer V. Hariharan would also choose the scripts.

Moreover, famous Bollywood director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Rituparno Ghosh have also decided to lend their support to Kamal for this project.

All these films would be funded by Kamal Hassan himself.

In order to launch his films, the actor has already started to look out at TV and theatres.
