Varun Gandhi's wedding rituals start at VaranasiVaranasi (Uttar Pradesh), March 6 : The rhapsodic ragas of shehnai and sonorous sound of conches reverberated the Kamkoteshwar temple as the wedding rituals of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Varun Gandhi and graphic designer Yamini Roy started here Sunday morning.

The Kamkoteshwar temple on Hanuman Ghat, one of the most sacrosanct temples in the holy city of Varanasi that wore a bridal look, turned into a fortress with district police, provincial armed constabulary (PAC) and other security personnel standing at its every nook and corner.

Tonnes of flowers from outside states, including West Bengal and Gujarat, filled the atmosphere with its fragrance.

The wedding ceremony to be performed as per the Vedic traditions began around 6.30 a. m. Rituals are being performed by Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and other priests.

The haldi rasm (a pre-marriage ceremony) was performed Saturday at a simple function in the temple complex. While Gandhi wore a cream-coloured Kurta Payjama, Roy was dressed in a light pink saree.

"Both of them (Gandhi and Roy) will lead a happy life. Their wedding ceremony will continue from 6.30 in the morning till 8.30 a. m. (brahma mahurat)," Saraswati had told reporters Saturday.

The function had limited guests.(IANS)
