Uttar Pradesh Hikes Cane Price The Uttar Pradesh Government has revised sugar cane prices for the current season on Saturday. The farmers would now get Rs 15 more than the prices of last year. The State Advised Price (SAP) for common variety sugarcane would be Rs 140 a quintal after recent revision of prices. It was Rs 125 per quintal last year. SAP for rejected variety would be Rs 137.50 a quintal which earlier stood at Rs 122.50.

The sugarcane prices are hiked following the recommendations of Shahjahanpur Sugarcane Research Institute. The study of the institute said that the farmers should be properly compensated as the input cost of the crop is increased. However, the state farmers would still get lower rates for cane crop that the framers of Punjab and Harayana. These states are offering Rs. 160 per quintal to the farmers.

The government has also changed rules for mills purchasing cane. They would now need reservation orders for cane purchase in a specified area. The new norms legalized the agreed prices and can not be challenged in the court.
