US denies action against Union Carbide
US has denied taking any action against the Union Carbide Company for the world's worst industrial disaster that had killed over 15,000 people in India.
US has anticipated that the Indian court will decide in the Bhopal gas tragedy and it would bring closure to the culprits for this mishap.
Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Mr. Robert Blake has told to the reporters at a news conference that this verdict today will help to bring some closure to the victims' and their supporters. He has said that they are not expecting this verdict to reopen any new inquiries or anything similar to that.
But they are anticipating that this is going to help to bring a closure to the issue. He has also said that the Bhopal gas issue is an internal matter of India and they have nothing to do with it.
However, this mishap has happened 26 years ago and it was a terrible tragedy, one of the worst industrial accidents in human history. Former Union Carbide India Chairman Keshub Mahindra and six others were convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment in a judgment.
