UPA determined to tackle unemployment problem in Northeast: Sonia
Jowai (Meghalaya), Feb 24: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is determined to bring the Information and Technology (IT) revolution in Northeast to tackle the problem of unemployment in the region.
"It was because of the efforts of Rajiv Gandhi that the country entered into IT revolution. This is one sphere where the UPA is giving utmost priority. The Congress is committed to push the IT revolution in the region, which is known for its high education quality," Gandhi said.
"The UPA Government has made huge allocation for roads, education, rural connectivity, sanitation, health, infrastructure and other sectors. But work never ends, and there is much more to be done," Gandhi said.
She further added that Meghalaya has emerged as an exporter of fruits and flowers due to the UPA Government’s efforts in the horticulture sector.
"However, some produce like cashew nuts are taken to other States for processing. The UPA is making efforts to establish processing units in the State to solve the problem," Gandhi said.
She also said that the UPA Government is making efforts to develop border hats along the Indo-Bangla border to improve links with Bangladesh.
Gandhi said that only Congress could provide a stable, progressive and value-based government, she requested the electorate to give a clear mandate to her party.
"Congress is your partner for progress and prosperity. We seek your mandate to provide a stable Government and able administration," she said.
She also highlighted the works of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. (ANI)
