UNPA To Abstain From Voting

New Delhi: United National Progressive AllianceAfter a decisive meeting on finalization of presidential election policy, the leaders of the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) has decided to keep off voting and not support NDA backed presidential confident Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Considering Prathibha Patil’s contention, the UNPA leaders stated they are taking a “witting” decision to not back up the UPA candidate.

The UNPA leaders also clarified that they would plan their own independent applicant for the Vice-Presidential elections.

The well-known leaders of the coalition who attended the meeting included TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, and Amar Singh as also Brinda Goswami of AGP.

The UNPA meeting took place at the residence of INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala among projections that the UPA-Left applicant Pratibha Patil would be having a fluent navigation even if the UNPA backed up Shekhawat.

The conference bears signification as the opposition NDA was flirting with the suggestion of supporting UNPA candidate for the post of Vice President in exchange for its accompaniment to Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Previously, the UNPA at its meeting in Chennai had considered the name of incumbent APJ Abdul Kalam for a second term. Though the President originally depicted interest in the competition if the figures titled near his side, he later turned back after vocal confrontation from the UPA and negative response of the NDA to make a pledge.
