UN must avoid passing of new resolution that will undermine Iran-IAEA cooperation

Tehran, Nov.19: Cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will suffer a setback if the U.N. Security Council issues a new resolution against Tehran, warned Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini.

According to a Tehran Times report, Iran and the IAEA agreed on August 21 this year to a timetable for addressing remaining ambiguities about Iran’s nuclear activities.

IAEA Director General Mohamed El Baradei released a report on Iran’s cooperation in the nuclear issue on Thursday, which will be discussed by the IAEA’s 35-nation Board of Governors at its forthcoming meetings in Vienna beginning on November 22.

“If despite all previous negotiations and all our ‘constructive and positive cooperation’ by the agency a new resolution is introduced it will definitely affect the implementation of the modality plan,” Hosseini told reporters here on Sunday.

El Baradei’s recent report is “more powerful” than the previous ones, he noted.

This report, especially on the parts concerning P-1 and P-2 centrifuges, clearly showed that Iran’s stances over the past four years have been “right, logical, honest, and transparent,” he stated.

The report discredited claims by certain Western countries that questioned Iran’s nuclear transparency, he added.

The report confirmed the transparency of Iran’s nuclear program and said it found Tehran to be generally truthful about key aspects of its nuclear history.

“The agency has been able to conclude that answers provided on the declared past P-1 and P-2 centrifuge programs are consistent with its findings. We will, however, continue to seek corroboration and to verify the completeness of Iran’s declarations,” the report stated

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also stated that suspension of uranium enrichment is an issue of the past, and “we will not even negotiate on that.”

As a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran has the right to conduct uranium enrichment for civilian purposes. (ANI)
