Ukraine book World Cup play-off place with drubbing of Andorra
Hamburg - Ukraine secured a place in the World Cup play-offs Wednesday with a 6-0 hammering of Andorra in their final Group 6 qualifier.
Needing a win to be sure of beating Croatia to second spot in the group, Andriy Shevchenko netted his side's first after 26 minutes with Oleg Gusev making it 2-0 shortly after the hour mark.
An own goal from Ildefons Lima followed by late goals from Yaroslav Rakitski, Yevgen Seleznov and Andriy Yarmolenko completed the rout.
The win sees Ukraine complete their round of qualifying matches on 21 points, three behind group winners England, who play Belarus later Wednesday at Wembley.
Croatia finish third on 20 points after a last-minute goal from Niko Kranjcar ensured a 2-1 win away to Kazakhstan.
The eight best second-placed teams from Europe's nine qualifying groups will go into the hat for Monday's play-off draw in Zurich.
So far, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Russia and Ireland are the other teams to have guaranteed their places in the draw, which will be seeded according the countries' FIFA rankings, with matches set to take place on November 14 and 18. dpa
