Twitter allows ads on its pages
Twitter is going to allow advertisements to be posted on its site, so that it can generate more sales and can reach out to a greater audience.
The social networking site currently gets about 50 million short message posts every day.
Twitter is going to use the way of "promoted tweets," to get the advertisers. The names of these will include biggies like Best Buy Inc. and Starbucks Inc.
The information was given by the company in one of its blog. It also said that the ads will appear on the top of the page and it is kept in mind that the users face least possible inconvenience.
The site was formed in 2006 and was part of the trend where the social sites were reluctant to allow ads on their pages. But, that ultimately affected the sales and they were finally forced to go for the advertisers.
As for Twitter, it has already signed a distribution deal for $25 million with Microsoft Corp. and Google Inc. The money thus generated will make it profitable.
In January alone, Twitter had 21.8 million users in US. This was 9.1 per cent higher than the number in December.
