TVS may convert it Indonesian production facility into export hubTwo-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Co has announced that it would convert it Indonesian production facility into an export hub in case a new scooter launch in that country does not help it break even.

TVS' Indonesian two-wheeler subsidiary PT TVS Motor Co has so far failed to break even; however, it expects its new scooter Skubeck it is planning to launch in Indonesia would help it break even next year.

H. Lakshmanan, director of TVS Motor Co, said that the company expected that its new scooter Skubeck would succeed despite many hurdles.

Speaking on the topic, Lakshmanan said, "We hope Skubeck will bring us fortunes; but if it does not, we may decide to stop production and convert it (Indonesian facility) into an export hub."

Chennai-based TVS' Indonesian subsidiary has an annual manufacturing capacity of 300,000 units, but the Indian two-wheeler maker has been struggling to see an increase in its market share in the Southeast Asian island country ever since the launch of the subsidiary in 2007.

Indonesia one of the most competitive markets in the region and manufacturing giants like Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are well-established in the market.

The manufacturer also announced its plans to make huge investments in new models to boost sales in the coming years. It said it will invest Rs 50 crore, in addition to already planned Rs 100-125 crore, during the current financial year. The company has plans to launch five new models by December of 2014.
