Train services best in Scotland

Train services best in ScotlandAccording to a new survey, the quality of train services has huge disparities within the UK with some regions performing well compared to other regions.

According to the data collected by the Campaign for Better Transport (CBT) London, the south east, north west England, the West Midlands and Scotland had the best train services. The report from consultants Credo in association with the CBT showed that Welsh, east of England and north-east England rail services performed much worse than other parts in the UK.

The report said that the customer dissatisfaction was recorded in London due to cost and overcrowding in London even as the authorities have made major investments in the area. It showed that the service in Wales was less used and was being less accessible than other parts of the country. The report said that east of England and north-east England services has sparse network that makes it inaccessible to many people.

CBT chief executive Stephen Joseph said, "The research exposes the huge disparities in the quality of train services across the country. Importantly, it suggests the answer is to give local administrations more control over their rail networks. The comparison between Scotland and Wales is stark, with devolved management of services in Scotland delivering significantly better results than the equivalent in Wales."
