Toyota is in no mood to revise its proposed wage hike offer
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has indicated that it will neither revise the proposed wage increase for its workers nor reinstate suspended workers.
The auto giant has been in disputes with its worker union over issue of wage increase. It has agreed to lift the lockout at its Bidadi-based two manufacturing facilities.
But, Toyota Kirloskar Vice-Chairman Shekar Viswanathan said that the company has already made its final offer, adding that it was unable to increase it further.
Speaking on the issue, he said, "I believe that we have made our final offer. We have given enough explanation, chapter and verse, on why we can't increase our offer. The government and the labour department are fully aware about it."
The company has agreed to give workers an average wage increase of Rs 3,050 at the end of March, as against a hike of Rs 4,000 demanded by the workers' union. Last year, the company had given its workers an average wage increase of Rs 4,000.
Mr. Viswanathan added that the management would not revoke suspension orders it passed against some of the workers. He added that an inquiry committee would be set up and based on its report the management would take appropriate steps.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors, which is 89 per cent owned by Japan-based Toyota Motor Corporation, employs nearly 6,500 people at its two Bidadi-based two manufacturing facilities.
