London  - Tottenham Hotspur agreed a fee to re-sign striker Robbie Keane from Liverpool on Monday.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined Liverpool from Spurs in August for 19 million pounds (26.9million dollars).

He never seemed at home on Merseyside, though, scoring just five goals in 16 Premier League starts before being frozen out by manager Rafa Benitez.

A statement of the Liverpool website said: "Liverpool Football Club have reached agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the sale of Robbie Keane."

Keane would become the third player sold by Spurs over the past year to re-join the club, following Pascal Chimbonda and Jermain Defoe.

Tottenham's hunt for a striker gathered urgency last week when Defoe suffered a foot injury. dpa
