Theranos using its proprietary technology on single test

During an interview, Chief Executive Officer of Theranos Inc., Elizabeth Holmes, said the company is using its proprietary technology on just one test out of over 200 it offers. Holmes said they will expand the technology’s use after they get permission from the FDA for more uses.

The company’s technology can perform accurate test and that too by using a few drops of blood. The company itself has limited its technology to just a single test. Questions were raised with regard to the accuracy of its technology in an article published in the Wall Street Journal. But the CEO has said that their services are accurate and reliable.

The Journal article has even said that the company has overstated the ability of its tests and the company has even relied on other companies’ equipment for many years. “The Wall Street Journal fully stands by John Carreyrou’s article about Theranos, which was richly sourced and thoroughly researched”, affirmed Colleen Schwartz, a spokeswoman for the newspaper.

The Journal has even reported that lately, the FDA has visited the company for a surprise inspection and said that the data the company has submitted for many of its tests were not sufficient enough.

On the other hand, Holmes said the company is in transition phase. It is now being converted from lab infrastructure to the one being regulated by the FDA. Everything is being done by the company voluntarily.
