Terror Attacks Hit Mumbai Multiplexes

Terror Attacks Hit Mumbai Multiplexes The terror attacks on Mumbai have hit the film business in a big way.

An eerie silence is prevailing in Mumbai’s movie houses even as the police authorities have claimed a major breakthrough into the incident.

Empty box offices and deserted cinema halls are the norm of the day after the aftermath of last week’s attack.

The shows of two fresh releases, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Sorry Bhai, had to be canceled at many cinema houses owing to lack of viewers.

Both the films have taken a severe beating as ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ had a 15 to 20% occupancy over the weekend, while ‘Sorry Bhai!’ was a complete washout with a very sad 5-10% collections.

Such poor responses forced theatres/plexes to cancel shows due to lack of audiences.

The coming Friday (December 5) was to witness a plethora of medium-budget/low cost films, including ‘Maharathi’, ‘Dil Kabaddi’, ‘Khallballi - Fun Unlimited’, ‘Oh, My God!!’, ‘Meerabai Not Out’ and ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’.

But, the makers of ‘Khallballi - Fun Unlimited’ and ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’ have decided to postpone the launching date.

Mr. Riaz Haider, the Project Head of One More Thought [Khallballi - Fun Unlimited], said, “The timing isn't right.”

He also said that the launching date will be decided in a day or two.

In contrast, ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’ has been shifted to December 19.

“Two reasons why we postponed our film,” music director turned producer Shravan Rathod told, “With so many films arriving on December 5, we felt it would kill the prospects of our film. Two, it'll take time for people to come out of the depressing phase [the terror attacks in Mumbai]. Hence, we decided to shift ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’ to December 19.”

It would be more newsworthy to see how ‘Maharathi’, ‘Dil Kabaddi’, ‘Oh, My God!!’ and ‘Meerbai Not Out’ perform this Friday.
