Telecom Operators Ignore TRAI’s Regulations

Telecom Operators Ignore TRAI’s RegulationsAs per the decision made by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), all the leading telecom industries, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular, within six months, would make some modifications in their tariff plans.

The recommendation was made, after the TRAI members discovered that many of the operators violated the organization rules because they without any reason increased their tariff rates by 20%.

However, a top telecom official explained, as per the organizations terms and conditions, for 180 days, the operators were not recommended to change their base call tariffs plans.

On the other hand, R. S Sharma, TRAI Chairman, stated that the operators’ decision, to increase their tariff rates and their decision regarding the refusal to follow rules, have definitely questioned TRAI 's capability in protecting the consumer interest and also highlighted the fact that the organization, in their working procedures, was totally ineffective.

However, all the companies ignored the recommendation and an official working for the Bharti telecom operator added, “Leading operators have made heavy investments and have to make up for these expenses. Bharti Airtel has to recover a lot of the expenses they have made for their Africa and Bangladesh operations. But we have no such pressure at present".
