National Conference on Financial Reporting to be held in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 3 : Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will organize a two-day National Conference on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) here on September 5.

The conference is being organized by the Continuing Professional Education Committee and Northern India Regional Council of ICAI.

It will be spread over eight technical sessions and will be addressed by the experts in the field of IFRS.

The conference will focus on challenges in adoption of IFRS, first time adoption of IFRS and the issues related to change over to IFRS, besides other facets of accounting standards.

National Foundation for Teachers'' Welfare organizes voluntary fund collection drive

New Delhi, Sept 3 : The National Foundation for Teachers'' Welfare organised a voluntary fund collection drive here today ahead of Teachers'' Day.

The drive was carried out with the help of students and teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector-II, R. K. Puram and Laxman Public School, Hauz Khas.

The funds collected on the occasion will be utilised for the welfare of teachers.

After the fund collection drive, the students from the above schools presented a cultural programme at Reading Hall of Central Secretariat Library, Shastri Bhawan. Secretary, School Education and Literacy (SE&L) was the chief Guest of the function.

Supreme Court asks Orissa Govt. to submit report on Kandhamal

New Delhi, Sept 3 : The Supreme Court today directed the Orissa Government to submit its report on steps taken to protect the lives of people belonging to the Christian community in riot-hit Kandhamal district by Thursday.

The apex court also asked the state government whether it had granted permission to VHP leader Praveen Togadia to carry the ash of slain leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati during his proposed yatra.

Hearing a writ petition filed by the Archbishop of Cuttack seeking a CBI probe into violence against the Christians in Orissa, a three-judge Bench of Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan, Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice J. M. Panchal fixed Thursday for hearing the matter.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations begin

Armed Forces unwilling to accept Sixth Pay Commission report

A K AntonyNew Delhi, Sep 2 : The Armed Forces have communicated to Defence Minister A K Antony that they were “unwilling to implement” the Sixth Central Pay Commission
(CPC) report without anomalies being removed to restore their status and parity of pay scales.

“A high level delegation from the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) made a presentation to Antony and top officials on anomalies, as introduced in the notified CPC report for officers, though it expressed satisfaction over the pay hikes for personnel below officer rank,” said sources in the Defence Ministry.
