New Delhi/Lucknow, Mar 13 : As the Election Commission slapped a notice on Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav for violating the Model Code of Conduct, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also rapped Mulayam. The Congress, however, has played soft with its key ally.

New Delhi, Mar 12 : Inflation has fallen to a more than a six-year low of 2.43 per cent for the week ended February 28, against the previous week''s 3.03 per cent, government data showed on Thursday. The annual inflation rate was 6.21 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year.

The fall in the wholesale price index is mainly attributed to a fall in prices of manufactured products and some food items.

During the week, prices of steel ingots, batteries and nylon yarn declined.

New Delhi, Mar 12 : The Supreme Court on Thursday absolved two men accused of murdering a man thirty years ago.

Dismissing an appeal filed by the Uttar Pradesh Government against the acquittal of Gajey Singh and Rajpal Singh in a murder case that occurred on January 27, 1979 in Meerut, the apex court argued that the murder was committed in self-defense, which is permitted under the law.

The apex court held that a person can kill another when there exists reasonable apprehension that his adversary is going to cause him/her grievous injury even though he might not have actually inflicted any.

New Delhi, Mar 12 : A home-loving pooch's reluctance to leave an empty house, where its owner once resided as a tenant, has made it difficult for authorities to demolish the premises.

Although the resident in Chongqing municipality moved to a new home, his pet Guai Guai refused to move out and remained in the empty building for six months.

The dog would stand on the roof of the building to guard it every day, the China Daily reported.
