New Delhi, Mar 14 : The Biju Janata Dal Chief and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said that his party would not support either a Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) or a BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.

Patnaik's statement came a day after the Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary A. B. Bardhan met him to persuade him to join the Third Front.

The BJD, however, said his party would consider its move only after the polls.

New Delhi, Mar. 14 : BJP leader L K Advani has said the NDA, if voted to power, would enact a law to make multi-purpose national identity cards mandatory for citizens to strengthen national security.

Unveiling the IT Vision Document of the party for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Advani said security was NDA's main concern for making national identity cards mandatory.

The leader of the opposition referred to the increasing infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into the country, especially in the northeastern areas.

New Delhi - Three suspected militants hiding inside a mosque in India's Jammu and Kashmir state were killed in a gunbattle with security forces Saturday, news reports said.

The rebels had hidden inside the mosque in Kishtwar district, about 210 kilometres north-east of state's winter capital Jammu after they were chased by an army patrol, a senior official said.

"They all belong to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET, a militant group based in Pakistan)," Brigadier General Gurdip Singh was quoted as saying by IANS news agency.

New Delhi  - A software engineer has been arrested in the southern Indian city of Chennai on charges of killing his baby daughter by throwing her into a well, news reports said Saturday.

S Niranjankumar allegedly committed the crime beacuse his wife had refused to abort the child, NDTV television channel reported.

Niranjankumar, 29, and Sangeetha, 22, were married a year ago and were based in India's information technology hub Bangalore.

New Delhi, Mar 14 : Congress party launched its advertisement campaign for the upcoming general election on Friday.

Aiming to spice up its election campaign, the Congress party has also bought the rights to "Jai Ho," the Oscar-winning song from "Slumdog Millionaire."

Talking to reporters here Party spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan said that the campaign focuses on the party''s achievement down the years.
