Musharraf brands South Asia as the most volatile region in worldLahore, Jan 28 : Former President Pervez Musharraf has branded South Asia as "one of the most volatile regions in the world," and called on US President Barack Obama to address the root causes of problems in the region and force Pakistan and India to resolve their political differences.

A report by the Philadelphia Inquirer quoted Musharraf as saying at Philadelphia's Franklin Institute that Afghanistan, Pakistan and India are "the focal point in the world today."

Zardari seeks help from foreign envoys to stop US drone attacksIslamabad, Jan 28 : President Asif Ali Zardari has sought the diplomatic community's help to stop the United States from carrying out drone attacks on al Qaeda militants in Pakistan's Tribal Areas bordering Afghanistan.

Speaking at a dinner hosted for foreign ambassadors on Tuesday, Zardari said Pakistan had joined the anti-terror war for its own security, but the US drone attacks were proving detrimental to its efforts.

Pakistan secures smuggled antiques from the UK

Pakistan FlagIslamabad, Jan. 27 : The British government has decided to return 198 pieces of antique pottery to Pakistan, said to about-4,000-years-old.

The million dollar worth antique pieces were categorised as `ordinary pieces of pottery with a value of about 100 dollars when they were smuggled out of Pakistan via Dubai in 2007. But they were seized by the UK's Customs Department at Heathrow Airport, the Daily Times reports.

Subsequently, the Pakistan High Commission in UK started negotiating with the British authorities for its return.

Pak senators blame India for posting defamatory calendarsIslamabad, Jan. 27 : Several Pakistani Senators have received calendars illustrating Pakistan as being within India's territorial boundaries.

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid's (PML-Q) Senator Gulshan Saeed has blamed an Indian organization for posting her such calendars. She also said that her colleagues, Rehana Baloch, had also received the calendar, the Daily Times reports.

When Gulshan informed Senate's Deputy Chairman Jan Muhammad Jamali about the issue, he said he had also received a similar calendar.

Pak military plans ''high-tech'' jamming of Taliban radio terror in SwatLahore, Jan. 27 : Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Athar Abbas has said the military was planning to use the latest technology to jam illegal radio transmissions of the Swat Taliban.

"Taliban's FM radio transmitters were mobile and could not be destroyed immediately. The acquisition of the technology would help block the illegal transmissions," the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

Pakistan cracks down JuD’s main headquarterIslamabad, Jan. 27 : The Government in Pakistan''s Punjab provincehas finally taken over the main headquarters of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa at Muridke.

An administrator has been appointed to oversee all institutions run by the UN-banned JuD. Apart from a regular monitoring of the hospitals, schools and other welfare bodies run by the institution, JuD's main headquarters at Muridke have finally been taken over, The News reports.

Earlier, LeT's terror camps were organized in this complex before being moved to Pakistan-administered Kashmir after a 2002 ban on the organization.
