Hectic political days for Pak ahead of Aug 11 Impeachment Motion against Musharraf

Islamabad, Aug 7 : Even as the PPP-PML(N) coalition government has decided to bring an Impeachment Motion against Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Monday (Aug 11), the first ever in the political history of Pakistan, political pundits and legal experts in Islamabad suggest that the next three days will witness hectic politics.

Legal experts believe that the impeachment process will prove to be a ‘unique learning experience’ for parliamentarians and constitutional experts alike, as it would be an unprecedented incident in Pakistan’s history.

Islamabad, Aug 7 :Pak lawyer urges court to stall Benazir’s book for ‘defaming’ his client A lawyer in Islamabad has reportedly moved a court urging it to stop the sale of the book - “Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the West”, written by former premier Benazir Bhutto, for mentioning (in the book) that his client Qari Saifullah Akhtar was involved in the October 2007 Karachi bombings which claimed 
150 lives.

Hashmat Habib, the lawyer, described the allegation as “baseless”.

Pak Prez Musharraf to be impeached soon, says Nawaz’s aide

London, Aug 7 : former Pakistan premier Nawaz SharifIf sources close to former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif are to be believed, at the “make-or-break” meeting between Nawaz and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, it was decided (between the two leaders) to impeach President Pervez Musharraf and force him to step down from the Presidency.

Quoting Nawaz Sharif’s spokesman Ahsan Iqbal, The Times Online reported that it is confirmed that Musharraf will be impeached soon, and the decision agreed upon between Nawaz and Zardari would be made public at a press conference later in the day.

Islamabad, Aug 7 : Pakistan President Pervez MusharrafThe Upper House of Pakistan’s parliament the Senate witnessed pandemonium amid heated exchange of words between the Opposition and Treasury benches last evening when Senator Kamran Murtaza’s alleged that President Pervez Musharraf had paid Rs 25 crore to some members of the parliament to elect him as the president.

Murtaza had levelled these allegations against Musharraf on Tuesday.

Senator Pari Gul Agha said that the allegation had put a question mark on the integrity of senators and Murtaza should submit proof to support his claim.

Pak senators demand parliamentary body to oversee intelligence agencies

Islamabad, Aug 6 : Amid the raging controversy over the functioning of Pakistan intelligence agency ISI, members of the Senate have reportedly demanded setting up of a parliamentary committee on intelligence to oversee the affairs of the country’s intelligence agencies.

During the parliamentary proceedings yesterday which were dominated by controversy over control of ISI, some senators, including Haji Adeel of the ANP, Waseem Sajjad, SM Zafar and Salim Saifullah demanded that a “parliamentary committee on intelligence” to oversee the functioning of intelligence agencies, reported the Daily Times.
