Pak Prez Musharraf to be impeached soon, says Nawaz’s aide

London, Aug 7 : former Pakistan premier Nawaz SharifIf sources close to former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif are to be believed, at the “make-or-break” meeting between Nawaz and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, it was decided (between the two leaders) to impeach President Pervez Musharraf and force him to step down from the Presidency.

Quoting Nawaz Sharif’s spokesman Ahsan Iqbal, The Times Online reported that it is confirmed that Musharraf will be impeached soon, and the decision agreed upon between Nawaz and Zardari would be made public at a press conference later in the day.

Besides impeaching Musharraf, the two leaders also decided to restore the dozens of Supreme Court judges fired by him last year.

“The ruling parties were committed to reinstating the judges. President Musharraf should have resigned after the defeat of his allies in February elections,” the report quoted Ahsan as saying.

The decision concludes two days of talks between the two men.

Rifts over whether to impeach the President and how to restore the judges had weakened the four month-old coalition government and hampered its efforts to formulate policies to counter rising Islamic militancy and a slew of economic problems. (ANI)
