China wants India and Pakistan to be good neighboursBeijing, Dec. 5:China has said that it would like both India and Pakistan to tone down tensions and function as good neighbours of the country.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said “Both Pakistan and India are good neighbors of China.”

He urged India and Pakistan to work together.

“We sincerely hope that India and Pakistan will step up co-operation and dialogue and jointly safeguard peace and stability in East Asia, which is in the interest of both countries and the region,” Jianchao said during a press briefing.

Pakistan demands Chenab water compensation from India

Lahore, Dec. 5: Pakistan has demanded compensation from India for the latter allegedly stopping the flow of water of the Chenab River.

Pakistan’s Water and Power Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf told journalists after the 32nd Annual Convention of Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers of Pakistan, that New Delhi must compensate Islamabad for the misuse of water flows.

The Daily Times and The News quoted Pervaiz as saying that Pakistan had registered its protest with India at every level, including the offices of the prime minister and the president, and had made it clear to New Delhi that it wanted water in compensation, adding, “We are waiting for India’s reply.”

Pakistan is capable of launching nuclear missiles within ten minutes

Islamabad, Dec 5 : Nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand has said that Pakistan is competent to launch nuclear missiles at a short notice of ten minutes in case India attacks Pakistan.

"Pakistan''s long-range Shaheen nuclear missiles were more accurate than comparable Indian missiles. No city in India was beyond the reach of Pakistan''s missiles," Samar told to a private TV channel.

Samar, a member of the team of scientists that conducted Pakistan''s nuclear tests in 1998, said that before Pakistan conducted the missile tests that equalised the ratio, India had been superior to Pakistan by a ratio of 3.5 to 1.

Pak, India are democracies and they do not go to war: ZardariWashington, Dec. 5 : Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has said that he does not visualize his country and India going to war, as they are democracies with representatives elected by a popular vote.

“Democracies do not go to war. War is not in our expression of thought.” the Dawn quoted Zardari as telling CNN’s Larry King.

He said that America went to war against Iraq only in retaliation to “the attack on America”.

Wife takes bullet for husband in Pakistan

Islamabad - A woman died of a bullet wound she received while shielding her husband during a gun attack by his brother in Pakistan's eastern Raiwind district, a media report said on Friday.

Forty-year-old Sakeena jumped in front of her spouse, Shaukat, as his brother drew a rifle on him in a fit of rage over an inheritance dispute on Thursday, the English-language Dawn newspaper reported.

Both victims were only identified by their first names.

The woman was hit by a single bullet and taken to a hospital, where she died.

Dawn said Shaukat and six of his brothers had shared their inheritance, but the brother who fired the gun was angered because he had been left out.

Pakistani, Afghan presidents in Turkey for summit

Ankara - Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his Afghanistan counterpart Harmid Karzai were in Istanbul Friday for a summit to discuss ways to improve regional security.

The two leaders are expected to concentrate on tensions over Pakistan's north-western tribal regions, which have become a base and recruiting ground for hardline Taliban fighters bent on overthrowing the Afghanistan government.

Discussions are also expected on preventing drug smuggling and organized crime.

Friday's meeting was the second summit between the leaders of the neighbouring countries, with Karzai holding talks in April last year with then Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf.
