Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysia announced Tuesday that the government will cancel visas for more than 55,000 Bangladeshi nationals who obtained their work permits in
2007, but have yet to enter the country.

The move was in response to a recent disclosure by the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur that more than 70,000 workers with approved visas would be entering the country soon to work in various industries.

Kuala Lumpur, Mar. 10 : Indian nationals staying illegally in Malaysia have been advised to take up the Government's limited time offer to return home.

A Malaysia Nanban report quoted Suhakam commissioner N. Siva Subramaniam as saying that the offer includes going home without being jailed and a reduction in fines.

In a press statement, Siva urged them to approach the Yayasan Strategik Sosial office at the MIC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, the nearest Immigration or the state human resources department for help.

Kuala Lumpur  - Pakistani nationals are generally not interested in working in Malaysia due to perceived lower wages and perks compared to the Middle East, a Pakistani envoy said Monday.

Only 21,000 Pakistani workers came to Malaysia in the last six years, following a labour pact signed by both countries which was supposed to see 100,000 workers brought in, said Nadeem Ashraf, labour attache with the Pakistani High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

"Pakistani workers prefer to work in the Middle East countries where wages are very attractive and work conditions better.

"Moreover, it is also nearer home," Ashraf told the official Bernama news agency.

A Yahoo discussion portal, malaysianindianclub. com (Miclub) has been receiving hundreds of hits with many postings regarding the Hindu Rights Action Force and the need for proper political representation to educational and job opportunities.

Miclub has about 10,000 members who have put together their efforts to create a business directory, collaborative group for information and communication technology professionals and a cooperative for Indian businesses.

Petaling Jaya, Mar 7 : The family of A. Kugan, who died in police custody on January 20, has lodged a complaint against the Serdang Hospital and Dr Abdul Karim Tajuddin, for allegedly concealing the cause of his death in the first post-mortem report.

According to The Star, they filed a complaint against the hospital at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.

Chennai, Mar 7 : At least 43 workers from Tamil Nadu who returned from Malaysia complained of ill-treatment on Friday.

The youths from Villupuram, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts of the state, were employed in a hotel in Malaysia since February last year.

"I paid 85,000 rupees to seek immigration for Malaysia but were not given worker''s visa permit and were tortured inhumanely," said Yasin, a youth.

The youths said they were not paid any salary after working for a month in the hotel. Later they were asked to vacate the hotel.
