Tata Power Starts Commercial Operations At Tromaby Plant
In a significant move, country’s largest private sector electricity generating company, Tata Power Company (TPC) on Monday started commercial operations of its 250 megawatt power plant at the Trombay Thermal Power Station in Mumbai.
As a result of the commissioning, the generation capacity of the Trombay plant will be increased to 1,600 MW from 1,350 MW. The plant will operate on imported Indonesian coal. The company believes that the commissioning will help bridge the gap between the ever increasing demand and supply of power.
The civil works for the project has been executed by Larsen & Toubro while the main plant and balance of equipment has been executed by BHEL.
Commenting on this, Prasad R. Menon (MD -Tata Power) said, “The announcement is a significant step towards augmenting power supply. We thank the various agencies involved in the project, including the government of Maharashtra and the centre, in helping us achieve this milestone. We look forward to continued support of the Maharashtra government in facilitating this as also our further plans for other power generation opportunities in Maharashtra.”
TPC has an installed generation capacity of over 2300 MW. Moreover, it has a presence in thermal, hydro, solar and wind areas of power generation, transmission and retail.
The company has recently attained a 30 per cent stake in two Indonesian coal companies. Moreover, it is also coming up with a 4,000 MW ultra mega power project at Mundra in Gujarat.
“The addition of the new unit reiterates our commitment to enhance power supply to the growing needs of customers,” added Menon.
