Tata Nano bookings close; around one million cars booked!
The bookings for the Tata Nano have created a record of sorts – around one million Nano cars were booked during the booking period April 9 to April 25! The approximate figures comprise more than half the number of cars produced in India last year, the number being 1.83 million. However, the exact number of total bookings for the Nano will be compiled by Tata Motors in a couple of days, and disclosed on April 28.
Saturday, the last day of booking the small wonder, saw a ceaseless flow of interested customers make a beeline for the Tata Motor dealers’ showrooms across the country. In Mumbai alone, nearly 20,000 Nano cars were booked on Saturday evening.
One of the foremost Mumbai dealers said: “Many people have booked the car on the last day. There has been a surge in the number of bookings in the last four days with the top end variants, CX and LX being the most sought after models.”
With the more than one million application forms that Tata Motors sold altogether, priced at Rs 300 each, the company had already collected a handsome amount of Rs 30 crore, with maximum bookings coming from Tier II and below cities. Most of the bookings were done from the Tata Motors’ ‘preferred financiers’ - the State Bank of India branches, and other selected banks.
