Tata, Ford slash prices across models Following footsteps of other car manufacturers, Tata Motors and Ford India also slashed prices across models.

Tata Motors on Friday slashed prices by Rs 6,300 to Rs 1.5 lakh across its range of vehicles. While prices for the passenger cars were slashed by Rs 6,300 to Rs 69,000 depending on the model, prices of commercial vehicles were dragged down by Rs 15,000 to Rs 150,000.

Ford India too announced cuts in the prices of its vehicles by up to Rs 1.07 lakh. The price cuts will be applicable across Ford Fiesta, the Ford Endeavour, Ford Figo, Ford Classic and Ford Eco Sport. Prices of Ford Figo have been cut by up to Rs 23,399, the prices of compact SUV Ford Eco Sport have been cut by up to Rs 25,947.

Ford Fiesta and Ford Endeavour are now cheaper by up to Rs 32,961 and Rs 106,753, respectively.

Announcing the price cuts, the company said in a statement, "Ford India has passed on the benefits of recent excise duty reduction to customers and has revised the prices of its products with immediate effect."

The price cuts followed excise duty reduction announced in the interim Budget. Excise duty on finished goods like small cars and two-wheelers was slashed from 12 per cent to 8 per cent; while duty on large SUVs was dragged down 30 to 24 per cent.

A day earlier, on Thursday, General Motors India announced price cuts of its various models by up to Rs 49,000. Previously, India's biggest carmaker Maruti and Mahindra & Mahindra announced considerable price cuts for their vehicles.
