Taipei - Taiwan's benchmark stock index fell 5.54 per cent by morning trading Monday after the government raised a cap on daily stock market fluctuations.

The Taiex was down 253.91 points to 4,325.71.

The fall came one day after the government reverted the ceiling for daily share price falls to the original 7 per cent after imposing a 3.5-per-cent limit on October 13 to stabilize the stock market in the face of the global financial crisis. (dpa)
