Surgeons Warn Patients To Avoid Cosmetic Foot Surgery
Medical doctors have cautioned that cosmetic surgical treatment to the feet should never be done, as one could end up with scarring and nerve damage.
The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society asked patients to stay away from "foot facelifts" that comprise narrowing the foot to better fit high heels, reducing the second toe so it's not longer than the big toe and making the little toe shorter and skinnier to fit high heels.
Dr. Michael Pinzur, Loyola University Health System foot and ankle surgeon stated, "The risks of such surgeries -- including infections, pain, scarring and nerve damage -- are much greater than the benefits,"
"I hope patients will follow the Foot and Ankle Society's recommendation that surgery never be performed just to improve the appearance of the foot," Pinzur added. (With Inputs from Agencies)
