Sunfeast Open begins in Kolkata
Kolkata, Sept. 18: The seven-day WTA Sunfeast Open tennis tournament has begun, and will see the likes of Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli and Russian Daniela Hantuchova.
On Monday, Sania engaged in some match practice, but an announcement was made that she would not participate in the tournament due to a wrist injury.
West Bengal Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya inaugurated the tournament at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
"For the last two years, we have seen a very good open tennis tournament. People here wait for this precious tournament every year. I am very hopeful that the tournament will be a grand success," Bhattacharya said.
The players will compete for prize money of 175,000 dollars.
This WTA event is a Tier III-tournament and is played on indoor greenset. (With Inputs from ANI)
