Sunderland complete Zenden swoop
London - Sunderland confirmed on Friday that they have signed Holland midfielder Boudewijn Zenden on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the season with an option for a further year.
Zenden was a free agent after leaving French side Marseille in the summer and joins Sunderland after impressing during a recent trial.
If international clearance is secured in time, the former PSV Eindhoven star could make his debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
"We are delighted to be able to add a player of Bolo's quality to the squad," said manager Steve Bruce.
"He has performed at the highest level year after year and he's done extremely well during his time training with the club.
"Bolo brings international class, a steadying influence and a wide breadth of experience."
Zenden, who has won 54 caps, spent the last two seasons playing alongside current Sunderland captain Lorik Cana at Marseille. (dpa)
