Sumitomo Corp. increases stake in Swaraj Mazda
While the light CV maker Swaraj Mazda may have been losing its market share to its counterparts for many months now, but the Japanese firm Sumitomo Corp. is confident of the fact that the Chandigarh-based manufacturer will able to able to regain its market share in the domestic market.
As the CV maker has been on losing spree, its market share today stands at just a 3% which is way too low as compared to companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. The Japanese firm has recently acquired a 1.44% stake to boost its holding to 54.96%.
Experts are of a view that the increase in the shareholding pattern by Sumitomo will help the CV maker to regain its market share in the Indian market but this move hasn't been able to give any boost to the share price of Swaraj Mazda.
A Sumitomo spokesperson had earlier said that the company will be raising its stake in Swaraj Mazda before entering the medium- and heavy-duty vehicle market in 2011-12. Moreover, the new investment will help the company to meet the stricter new emission norms other than expanding its product portfolio.
