Sakthi Sugars Managing Director, M. Manickam said that though in the sugar markets the decisions are quite unsure but he has hopes from the government for decontrolling the sugar industry.

He said that the Indian government has its own opus and it will take the decisions according to the need of an hour. Talking about the government’s reforms, he said, “They might discuss either on the release control or restriction on exports and imports. If the release control is taken off, decontrol would be internal or it would be an open commodity for trading. These are our two basic expectations”.

According to Manickam, both partial and complete decontrols are fine. With partial decontrol one can work towards the correct course, it will anyway lead to a gradual decontrol.

Since prices are quite high in oversees market, probably Brazil will not increase the production, but Thailand has to be looked after, as it can be a threat. If decontrol is introduced in India, the country will make the best use of the chance and it might become a regular exporter.

The sugar experts are assuming 6,100 tonne to be agreed this time and this figure can bring the benefit of 4 corers to the industry.
