Stressful Job Increases Asthma RiskA new research has disclosed that stressful job can increase the chances of developing asthmatic trouble of a person by 40 percent.

The study was headed by Heidelberg University in Germany.

To come to the conclusion, the researchers followed 5,000 males and females aged between 40 and 65 for a period of more than eight years.

The researches discovered that among those free of asthma at the beginning of the project, there was up to a 40% higher occurrence of asthma eight years later if they suffered stress at their workplaces.

The signs were long working hours, demanding schedules and uncomfortable working conditions.

The report said, "Our study suggests work stress and the inability to relax after work are associated with an increased risk of asthma."

The studies conducted previously have shown stress can result in the release of chemicals, which promote allergies and upset the way the body halts inflammation of the airways.

But, boffins stressed that the absolute risk of someone developing asthmatic problem as they are overloaded at work is still very small.

The result of the study appears in Journal 'Allergy'. (With Inputs from Agencies)
