Stay in Space affects Skin

Space seems to be an exciting place to go, but in reality it is not. A Reuters article has unveiled that people interested in going to space should be reading to see their skin shrink. There are many complications to be there.

The article is based on the research carried out scientists to assess the skin condition of astronauts returning from long stay at the International Space Station (ISS). As per experts, stay in space can make your skin 20% thinner.

Saarland University's Karsten Koenig said, "So far we've got interesting results from three astronauts. we found that the epidermis, in particular the part of the living cells, that this epidermis is shrinking, so the skin gets thinner".

Koenig affirmed that things keep on becoming worse. For now, they do not have any explaining. The researchers said that shrinkage has happened within six months. The research is part of Skin B, a joint effort of NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) that aims to know how time spent in space can affect skin.

Owing to the exposure of harmful radiations, danger of thin skin gets higher in space. It has also been found that the time spent in space has also added to collagen growth, so that skin looks younger. Upon the request of ESA and NASA, a group of researchers took part in the study.

Bone lose density was found to be 1 to 2% per month. The researchers said that astronauts may also witness vision problem as fluid in brain does not pull down and puts pressure on eyeballs.
