Starbucks Pulls Turkey Sandwich from 1,347 US Locationsafter E. coli Scare

Coffee giant Starbucks recalled its holiday turkey paninis from about 1,347 locations in the US last week. The sandwiches were pulled after they were found to be tied to E. coli outbreak, according to the company.

Erin Jane Schaeffer, spokeswoman for the chain founded in Seattle, confirmed the recall and said the paninis in doubt have been pulled from areas like Oregon,California and Nevada. She also said that no other products of the company were affected. Seattle-based Starbucks did not receive any report regarding illness due to the contaminated product.

Last week, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifiedcranberry cornbread stuffing in sandwiches contained celery as main cause ofE. coli outbreak that sickened more than 15 people in seven US states. Earlier, health officials announced they found bacteria in the celery-and-onion mix inCostco’s chicken salad. After the announcement,Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. recalled a number of celery products, includingpaninis of Starbucks.

The coffeehouse company, which has more than 12,900 locations in the United States, is the latest victim of a food-safety scare. BeforeStarbucks, Denver based Chipotle Mexican Grill was found to be hit with an E. coli outbreak that sickened more than three dozen people in different locations. According to health officials, they are still trying to find thetainted ingredient.

Infected people may face serious complications like diarrhea, or kidney failure.
