South East Asian trade fair in Shillong
Shillong, June 17 : People here witnessed a shopping extravaganza as traders from South East Asian countries participated in the first ever Trade Fair here.
Participants from several countries, including Bangladesh, Thailand, Philippines, Kenya, Pakistan and Egypt, showcased a fabulous range of products at various stalls in the 12-day long fair which culminated today.
The exhibits included fast moving consumer goods, electronic items, computers, furniture and automobiles. Visitors thronged the venue to have a glimpse of the world-class goods ranging from kitchen and other domestic appliances to kids’ toys.
The fair has provided a platform to traders and consumers to come face-to-face in further improving the cultural and trade relations between India and the South East Asian nations.
With the success of the trade fair, Shillong, which is popularly known as the Switzerland of the East, has emerged as a trade venue providing employment to the people of the region.
Trade and commerce of the state has considerably increased in the last few years with many prominent companies coming into the state with a view to expand their networks. (ANI)
