Sony sued, rooting out ‘other OS’ from PS3

Sony Playstation 3The lawsuit filed against Sony claims that the technology giant is much more concerned about piracy than security. The latest firmware 3.21 of PS3 roots out 'Other OS' feature creating a tumble in the playstation market.

It was the state of resentment that led Anthony Ventura, file a suit against Sony for "intentional disablement of the valuable functionality originally advertised as available". It was in respect of the potential piracy adapted by the Japanese corp.

In support of this Sony made it clear that removal of Other OS feature was simply for security reasons.

According to the lawsuit that states, "On information and belief, contrary to Sony's statement, the 'security concerns' did not involve a threat to PS3 users, but rather reflected Sony's concerns that the Other OS feature might be used by 'hackers' to copy and/or steal gaming and other content."

Sony has been indicted for violating California's Unfair Competition Law by restricting the PS3's functionalities via forcing consumers to choose between the Other OS function and the Other Advertised Features impaired by Update 3.21.

Ventura on the other hand seeks for compensation and legal fees from this lawsuit which is close to $5 million, as the sources claim.
